Trigger warnings: suicide, cancer

Exactly 4 years and 8 months ago to the day, my best friend killed herself. As a kid, she had been diagnosed with a type of leukemia, and had undergone treatment. However, a few months after her 19th birthday, the cancer returned. Feeling that her family couldn’t afford her treatments again, she felt that it would be easier on them and on her to avoid months of pain and suffering that they weren’t even sure would necessarily lead to her improving again, she took matters into her own hands. When asked, I tell people that she died of cancer, because at the end of the day, that’s why she did what she did. With the news of Chadwick Boseman’s passing, a lot of old feelings are being resurfaced, and I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling that way. So today, take this as an opportunity to tell your loved ones that you love them and that you’re always there to support them, because life is short and everyone should know they’re loved. Hold them tight when they suffer, because sometimes just a hug can mean the world to someone and make a huge difference in their lives. let them know that they are not alone, and know that YOU are not alone. Most importantly, Always Keep Fighting.
